- "Your Money or Your Life: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence" by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin
http://yourmoneyoryourlife.info/
- Comments: This was the book that got me started on my path to financial freedom in 2003. I think I read this book at least seven times. Each time I read it I learned something new. It was a little difficult for me to read at first because it was making me think about my relationship with money and how it correlated with my values. However, each time I read it the concepts became a little easier. It took a little time for me to put the steps in place, but once I was up and rolling it was easy to keep up on. I have to admit that I did not complete at least one of the steps. If I am remembering correctly I did not finish the first step, but I feel that I was still successful. I was able to bring my spending habits in line with my values, pay off my debt, and invest my surplus. This book taught me to step away from accumulating money in my savings account at 0.45% APY in 2003 (corrected from 0.001% in original post to 0.45%) and learn how to obtain Treasury Bills and Bonds. At the time I was getting around 4% return on the Treasuries.
- "Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money-That the Poor and the Middle Class Do Not!" by Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon L. Lechter

- Comments: This book was an easy read and very eye opening for me. I have always been told that your house is an asset. This book explained very simply why it is not. I like reading all of the Rich Dad books, especially the series written by his advisors. Each one stretches my information bubble just a little more. However, I have found that Mr. Kiyosaki puts in a lot of plugs for his other books in his writings, which I find a little irritating.
- "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George s. Clason
- Comments: This book is full of short stories on how to make your money work for you. It starts with the lesson of paying yourself first with a tenth of the money you earn and expands from there.
